One kind of expertise. Two entirely different markets.
This one is ours. We grow and sell moss, and everything we learn doing it becomes content — for individuals under Seiyo Kokeen, and for the landscaping trade under Kokeniwa Doctor. Two audiences, two problems, two ways of talking.

CHALLENGE
Two demands, one account, neither served well.
We knew from the start that moss had two kinds of demand. At first we posted as “the moss shop” — terrariums and moss gardens from a single account. But the two audiences want opposite things. Someone buying their first terrarium is worried they will kill it. A landscaper installing a moss garden already sells the service, and cannot easily say out loud that they do not know why it fails.
APPROACH
In 2026, we split the accounts and the strategy.
- 01 Separated the two audiences properly
We sharpened the hypothesis around how differently the two behave, then split the accounts and the approach. That decision was the turning point — the moss-garden side started working almost immediately.
- 02 For individuals: teach before selling
People interested in moss are not sure they can keep it alive. We lead with how to grow and care for it — knowledge only someone who actually cultivates it can give — and let that build the trust that leads to the shop and the courses.
- 03 For the trade: name the failure
Landscapers install moss gardens that do not survive, and often do not know why. That exact problem, answered from a grower’s knowledge, cuts through regardless of follower count. We focused entirely on reels, since that is where landscapers show their work.
RESULT
Two markets, growing separately.
YouTube reached 14,000 subscribers, and the grower position — one nobody else occupies — became a base for sales and course bookings from across Japan. On the business-to-business side, running the account for one month was enough to convert an enquiry into work, with a route from consultation through on-site diagnosis to installation support.
We run this ourselves, which is why we can say what worked and what did not. Nothing here is second-hand.
